Espressif Systems, a fabless semiconductor company that designs, develops and markets wireless systems-on-chip and radio frequency (RF) semiconductors for Internet of Things, cellular, connectivity and broadcast applications, today announced volume production of its AS5900 chip that converts and drives the signals between any generic 802.11b/g/n chips and 1 GHz cable interface. AS5900 is optimized for high throughput cable TV boxes using the popular Wi-Fi standards.

The chip’s advanced multiplexing control system contains Espressif’s proprietary features that enable it to dynamically allocate time slots for transmission and receiving modes, seamlessly achieving the industry’s highest throughput.

The 1 GHz and 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g/n PHY integrates a high linearity power amplifier, antenna switch, and LNA into a single die SOC, resulting in minimal board space, hand-free automatic tuning for all kinds of cable conditions, and rapid application development.

“AS5900 is currently the industry’s most integrated Wi-Fi chip, with only 6 external components, besides offering the best performance and power amplifier linearity,” commented Teo Swee Ann, CEO of Espressif Systems. “AS5900 is Espressif Systems’ first step in our efforts to enter the large and rapidly growing Wi-Fi over Cable (WOC) market in China. The market is experiencing YoY growth of 40% with a fast growing ecosystem, and Espressif Systems is well positioned with this and other products to capture significant market share.”
