ESP32-based Autonomous Sensors by VZ

Reporting from Shanghai, China
Apr 30, 2021

VocalZoom (VZ), a provider of laser sensors for industry 4.0, has just launched its ESP32-based Autonomous Sensors for the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

VocalZoom (VZ) is a provider of single-mode laser-diode sensors for industry 4.0. The company has recently launched ESP32-based Autonomous Sensors (VAS) for the Industrial Internet of Things. Combining contactless, high-resolution laser-sensor technology with built-in, data-edge processing and wireless communications, VocalZoom’s Autonomous Sensors (VAS) enable low-cost and fast deployment of a wide range of monitoring applications for IIoT environments.

VZ's laser sensors measure the motion, shape, and vibrations of any surface, thus enabling industrial manufacturers to monitor the real-time health and performance of engines, turbines, pumps, etc. The compact and contactless form of VZ’s laser sensors allows their normal functioning even on hot, wet, and moving surfaces. VAS can measure a rotating shaft's vibrations or a rotating tool inside a CNC machine. VZ's Autonomous Sensors support built-in, real-time, data processing, which is based on the ESP32 microprocessor. VocalZoom's Autonomous Sensors are programmable, which makes them the only smart sensors on the market, which directly support application libraries and free programming from a third-party IoT cloud platform. VAS offer a standalone solution for edge processing and data analytics that can be used for measuring real-time performance and for improved data security. VZ’s monitoring system can connect to a machine in its production line, or to an internal / external cloud.

Combining a patented sensor and the ESP32 microprocessor into a single unit allows VAS to measure and analyze results without any additional products, even while calculating RPM, thickness, vibration anomalies, presence, height, and rotation (see the picture below). VZ’s optical sensors, in particular, can operate on any product surface and are immune to ambient light, which results in more accurate readings.

Unlike traditional monitoring systems, the sensors are not susceptible to ambient noise or vibrations and can be deployed quickly and easily, practically anywhere in an IIoT setting, without any downtime. Industrial manufacturers using VZ Autonomous Sensors can take advantage of features including:

  • Automatic wireless LAN setup;
  • Programmable edge processing, since VAS run a wide range of applications and algorithms;
  • Real-time alerts;
  • Direct connection to on-premise computers, as well as Programmable Logic;
  • Wireless streaming of raw data to a secured gateway;
  • Customizable dashboards monitoring IoT system health and real-time values;
  • Smart power-management for low power consumption when using a battery.
