Several of DFRobot products have been based on ESP8266 and ESP32. The productive collaboration between Espressif and DFRobots has facilitated the dissemination of programming knowledge among young people.

DFRobot is an Espressif partner focused on robotics and open-source hardware. Founded in 2008, they are headquartered in Shanghai and have been dedicated to creating innovative, user-friendly products that can foster a strong community of learning. The company is one of the early evangelists of the Maker Movement, supporting as great as possible an access to the maker culture. This resonates with Espressif’s core values, which has allowed for a really productive collaboration between the two companies.

Several of DFRobot products have been based on ESP8266 and ESP32.

For example, the ESP8266 Wi-Fi Bee is a Serial-to-Wi-Fi module based on Espressif’s ESP8266, while also being compatible with Arduino. ESP8266 Wi-Fi Bee has a powerful on-chip processing and storage capacity, a built-in 32-bit processor and a built-in Lwip protocol stack. The module supports the co-existence of AP+STA modes, while various parameters are configurable via AT commands.

The FireBeetle ESP8266 IoT Microcontroller is also based on Espressif’s ESP8266. This development board supports Wi-Fi connectivity, TCP/IP, and its low power consumption is especially suited for IoT applications. It integrates a 32-bit MCU, a 10-bit ADC and multiple interfaces, such as HSPI, UART, PWM, I2C and I2S. Equipped with a 16MB SPI flash memory, the FireBeetle ESP8266 IoT Microcontroller supports the storage of a large amount of programs and firmware.

The FireBeetle Board-ESP32 integrates Espressif’s Dual-Core ESP-WROOM-32 module, which supports dual-mode wireless (Wi-Fi&Bluetooth) communication. The electric current is just 10μA in the deep-sleep mode. The main controller supports two power-supply sources: USB and 3.7V external lithium battery. Both the USB and the external DC can charge the Lipo battery directly. The FireBeetle Board-ESP32 has a special hardware design that is compatible with the Arduino IDE.

If the FireBeetle Board-ESP32 seems too big for your projects, why not try the newly-launched Beetle-ESP32? The Beetle-ESP32 Microcontroller has a small size of 1.38”×1.34” and is a simplified version of FireBeetle-ESP32, which is especially designed for electronic-engineering fans and DIY lovers. It is equipped with 4 analog ports, 4 digital ports, UART and I2C interfaces, which can perfectly suit any small-scale IoT project.

With a mission to teach programming to an ever growing number of people, DFRobot has created comprehensive learning kits for teachers and parents who want to initiate their children into the world of robotics engineering and the Internet of Things. With an accompanying series of books and tutorials, DFRobot aims to help children build a solid programming knowledge and experiment with hardware. Recognizing the need for credible educational resources in the field of IoT, and believing that everyone can benefit from robotics, DFRobot has delivered more than one million open-source modules to students, teachers and researchers during the last five years. This is what has made DFRobot a world-leading provider of robotics and open-source hardware.
