Espressif's Wildlife Protection Program

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), established in 1948 by governments and civil society organizations, is a globally trusted union for the protection of the natural world. The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ was first compiled in 1964 and has since become the world's most comprehensive inventory of the global conservation status of plant and animal species. Its strong scientific base and quantitative criteria apply to most species and all regions of the world. The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ is considered the most authoritative guide for evaluating biodiversity and the extinction risk of thousands of species.

Espressif is known for its keen sense of corporate social responsibility, having long supported green / low-power technologies and having based its entire business model on open-source software and the democratization of technology. At present, we are deeply concerned about climate change, which has been the result of human actions in recent decades. Hoping to create more public awareness of this crisis, we are launching a wildlife protection program which draws on the environmental insight brought about by The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™. What's more, Espressif will donate the proceeds from development boards included in this wildlife protection program to the IUCN.

Blue-footed Booby

Least Concern

The blue-footed booby is a marine bird native to subtropical and tropical regions of the eastern Pacific Ocean. It is easily recognizable by its distinctive bright blue feet, which is a sexually selected trait and a product of their diet.

Clemmys Guttata

Endangered

A small, semi-aquatic turtle that inhabits the Great Lakes region of Canada and the U.S. It is confirmed to occur in a number of conservation areas, but because of vegetation dynamics and collection for pets, such protected populations are not secure in the long term.

(From the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species )

ESP32-C3-LCDkit

ESP32-C3-LCDkit is a development board designed for wildlife protection. It's based on the ESP32-C3 and contains a main board and a sub board. The main board includes features such as a speaker, an EC11 rotary encoder, and infrared sensors, while the sub board is a 1.28-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 240x240 and an SPI interface. ESP32-C3 is highly cost-effective and offers industry leading low-power performance. It can meet the basic HMI interaction needs of users and ideal for building rotary knob screens or small-sized display screens driven by the SPI interface.

Saola

Critically Endangered

Often called the Asian unicorn, little is known about the enigmatic saola since its discovery in 1992. None exist in captivity and this rarely-seen mammal is already critically endangered. Scientists have categorically documented saola in the wild on only four occasions to date.

(From the WWF website)

ESP32-S2-Saola-1

ESP32-S2 is a general-purpose development board based on ESP32-S2-WROVER, ESP32-S2-WROVER-I, ESP32-S2-WROOM or ESP32-S2-WROOM-I, with 4 MB flash. Most of the I/O pins are broken out to the pin headers on both sides for easy interfacing. Developers can either connect peripherals with jumper wires or mount ESP32-S2-Saola-1 on a breadboard.
