During Anthropic's recent Build with Claude event, the company showcased the M5Stack Cardputer, powered by Espressif's ESP32-S3, as recommended development hardware for building AI Agent interfaces. This selection highlights ESP32's growing role in the AI development ecosystem, particularly for creating physical interaction points with AI assistants.

Recently Anthropic has opened the Claude Hardware Interface (Bluetooth API) to developers, with the M5StickC Plus development board (based on ESP32) designated as the first reference hardware. The open-source example project, Claude Desktop Buddy, connects to the Claude desktop application via Bluetooth Low Energy and supports features including screen display, button interaction, and animated status indicators. The hardware device provides visual feedback on AI operations and enables physical confirmation of actions through button presses, eliminating the need to switch between screens.
For developers seeking to explore AI hardware integration, Espressif provides extensive documentation and examples through its open-source ESP-IDF SDK and the ESP Desktop Buddy library.
