ESP32-E22 Is Now Wi-Fi 6E Certified, with an Open-Source Linux Driver

Shanghai, China
Jun 12, 2026

Espressif will continue to invest in its hardware platforms, software support, and development tool ecosystem, giving developers and partners more open, complete, and easy-to-integrate solutions for the next generation of smart devices.

Espressif Systems (688018.SH) announced that the ESP32-E22 has been officially certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance as Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6E™. At the same time, Espressif has released the open-source ESP32-E22 Linux driver on GitHub, providing complete software support for system integrators and developers.

About the ESP32-E22

The ESP32-E22 is Espressif's first tri-band Wi-Fi 6E connectivity coprocessor, designed for host-based wireless systems operating across the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands. The chip uses a Radio Co-Processor (RCP) architecture, offloading Wi-Fi and Bluetooth protocol processing from the host so developers can pair it with Espressif SoCs or third-party processors for flexible system design. Built on Espressif's in-house dual-core RISC-V architecture and proprietary Wi-Fi 6E protocol stack, it delivers a stable, scalable foundation for next-generation products.

The ESP32-E22 is purpose-built for high-throughput, low-latency applications. It enables high-bandwidth streaming and wireless video links, supports next-generation smart-home hubs and connected appliances, and offers robust wireless performance for industrial automation, bridging solutions, and AR/VR accessories requiring low-latency communication. Combining 160 MHz channel bandwidth, 2×2 MU-MIMO, beamforming, and advanced link-layer scheduling, it sustains high throughput in dense, congested environments, with data rates of up to 2.4 Gbps.

Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6E™

Wi-Fi Alliance certification verifies a product's compliance with Wi-Fi standards and its interoperability with other certified devices. For the ESP32-E22, it means reliable connectivity with the large global ecosystem of Wi-Fi CERTIFIED™ devices and confident deployment at scale.

As Wi-Fi 6E adoption continues to grow across consumer electronics, smart homes, industrial equipment, and enterprise networks, formal certification further strengthens customer confidence in product compatibility and long-term availability.

Open-Source Linux Driver

To help developers integrate and validate their products more quickly, Espressif has simultaneously open-sourced the ESP32-E22 Linux driver project. Designed for the Linux platform with support for kernel 5.4 and above, the driver enables device manufacturers and system developers to integrate the ESP32-E22 into a wide range of host systems. Developers can evaluate, customize, and extend the open-source code, lowering the barrier to development and accelerating the path from product design to mass production.

Continuing to Strengthen the Wi-Fi 6E Ecosystem

Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6E™ certification marks an important milestone for Espressif in tri-band wireless connectivity. Looking ahead, Espressif will continue to invest in its hardware platforms, software support, and development tool ecosystem, giving developers and partners more open, complete, and easy-to-integrate solutions for the next generation of smart devices.
