Espressif Systems (SSE: 688018.SH)  announces its ESP32-H4 System-on-Chip (SoC), designed to support the development of advanced, battery-powered wireless products. Samples are now available upon request.

ESP32-H4 is optimized for long battery life. Its integrated DC-DC converter enhances power efficiency by reducing supply voltage and minimizing power loss during regulation. Together with fine-grained power control and multiple low-power operating modes, the SoC enables reliable performance in battery-powered devices that must operate for extended periods on compact power sources.

reduced maximum Tx power configuration enables ESP32-H4 to minimize RF current draw, providing additional power savings in continuous or frequent-transmission scenarios.

The Bluetooth® 5.4 LE of ESP32-H4 includes further optimizations for low-power operation, such as supporting advertising without CPU involvement, making it well-suited for low-power Bluetooth LE sensor applications.

These optimizations make ESP32-H4 ideal for wearable electronics, remote sensors, healthcare devices and portable wireless accessories requiring both efficiency and connectivity.

ESP32-H4 fully supports all features defined in the Bluetooth 5.4 (LE) Core Specification and has passed Bluetooth 6.0 certification, representing a major milestone for Espressif’s self-developed Bluetooth LE product line. It brings a set of advanced Bluetooth LE capabilities, including:

  • LE Audio for next-generationlow-power Bluetooth audio products (e.g., speakers, earbuds, hearing aids)

  • LE Isochronous Channels (BIS/CIS) for reliable, synchronized audio broadcast and connected audio streaming (e.g., broadcast audio, TVs)

  • Connection Subrating to reduce power consumption while maintaining responsive latency behaviours (e.g., medical sensors, remote controls)

  • Periodic Advertising with Responses (PAwR) for scalable, low-power sensor networks and dense node deployments (e.g., electronic shelf labels)

  • Direction Finding (AoA/AoD) for high-accuracy indoor positioning (e.g., indoor navigation, asset tracking, proximity services)

ESP32-H4 features a dual-core 32-bit RISC-V MCU clocked up to 96 MHz, with 384 KB of on-chip SRAM and 128 KB of ROM. Support for external PSRAM provides additional memory capacity for applications requiring larger buffers, complex protocol stacks or data processing.

This combination simplifies application development and allows developers to scale functionality without aggressive memory optimization, improving time-to-market and design flexibility.

Following Espressif’s principle of “Affordable Security”, ESP32-H4 integrates secure boot, external memory encryptiondigital signature with ECDSA supportcryptographic accelerators and a true random number generator (TRNG). These features protect device identity, secure firmware updates and safeguard sensitive data, enabling secure connectivity even in cost-sensitive, battery-powered devices.

ESP32-H4 is supported by Espressif’s open-source ESP- IDF development framework, providing a mature toolchain and extensive documentation. For Bluetooth Low Energy development, it integrates seamlessly with Espressif’s Bluetooth LE software ecosystem, including ESP-BLE-MESH and ESP-BLE-AUDIO, helping developers accelerate productization across a broad range of BLE applications. In parallel, future support through ESP-Matter will further simplify the development of Matter-enabled, Thread-based battery-powered devices, enabling seamless integration into modern smart-home ecosystems.

ESP32-H4 supports up to 40 GPIOs and a wide range of peripherals including I2C, I2S, SPI, UART, ADC, LED-PWM, timers, DMA, TWAI, USB-OTG and MCPWM, along with 15 touch-sensing GPIOs for human-machine interface applications. This versatility allows the SoC to support diverse use cases ranging from interactive controllers to sensor hubs and connected endpoints.
