A French startup with its ESP8266-based development board won the second prize at an IoT competition held during VivaTech 2018 in Paris, the annual convention about technological innovation and startups.

VivaTech is the annual Parisian rendez-vous for technology startups and leaders. Every year it attracts approximately 100,000 people, 9,000 startups, as well as 1,900 journalists and investors from 125 countries. This year’s event featured high-profile speakers ranging from Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, to Emmanuel Macron, the President of France. More specifically, on May 24th, President Macron explained his views on how to make technology a positive force for economy and society. The previous day, global tech leaders gathered at Palais de l’Elysée to discuss the positive impact of technological innovations.

La Cool Co.” is an IoT startup which was featured in this prestigious event. The company was created in 2013 by Antoine Berr, with the aim to focus on IoT systems for smart gardening, enabled by capturing and controlling environmental data. “La Cool Board” is the company’s development board which is based on Espressif’s ESP8266. “La Cool Board” powers a smart-connected  monitoring and controlling platform which measures and regulates different parameters, such as the quality and quantity of air, water, soil and light. “La Cool Board” is very user-friendly, which explains why the product is already popular in the United States, Europe, Africa and Asia.

During this year’s VivaTech, several different competitions were held. “Groupe Bouygues”, a French group of companies spanning the telecommunications, media and construction industries, launched a startup challenge on three themes regarding the use of digital technology: circular economy, worksite safety and urban healthcare. “La Cool Co.” participated in the third challenge, where the main question was: “What solutions can be offered to improve the health of a city’s inhabitants?”

“La Cool Co.” claimed during its presentation that its unique technological and business model can respond to people’s demand for a healthier urban lifestyle. “La Cool Board”, the company’s ESP8266-based development board, can bring to life an IoT system which enables the reduction of indoor air pollution, e.g. fine particles, volatile organic compounds, pollen, CO2, etc. All in all, the company presented a compelling pitch and ended up in the second place

Espressif Systems, which is known for passionately supporting green IoT technologies, wishes to congratulate “La Cool Co.” on this success.
