AT Firmware, V2.1.0.0, for ESP32-S2

Shanghai, China
Sep 30, 2020

Espressif has announced the introduction of default AT firmware, V2.1.0.0, for the ESP32-S2 series of modules and development kits.

The ESP-AT firmware supports the so-called 'AT' commands. These types of commands are in the form of plain text, allowing programmers to easily send instructions to ESP32-S2, from an external microcontroller, for example. ESP-AT aims to reduce customers’ development costs. Through the ESP-AT command, you can quickly join a wireless network, connect to a cloud platform, transmit data and control functions remotely, while keeping everything interconnected wirelessly. To get a better understanding of ESP-AT, you can read the ESP-AT User Guide.

Espressif has recently announced the introduction of the default AT firmware, V2.1.0.0, for the ESP32-S2 series of modules and development kits. This firmware can be installed during production in the specific products listed below:

    • ESP32-S2-WROVER, ESP32-S2-WROVER-I
    • ESP32-S2-WROOM,  ESP32-S2-WROOM-I
    • ESP32-S2-SOLO, ESP32-S2-SOLO-U
    • ESP32-S2-MINI-1, ESP32-S2-MINI-1U
    • ESP32-S2-Kaluga-1
    • ESP32-S2-Saola-1R, ESP32-S2-Saola-1RI
    • ESP32-S2-Saola-1M, ESP32-S2-Saola-1MI

The previous version of the above-mentioned products did not have any pre-programmed firmware. Thus, AT firmware, V2.1.0.0, is being used for the first time, thus enabling the modules and dev kits listed above support new features, while also ensuring the quality and performance that these products are known for.

For more details about the AT firmware, please check the ESP32S2-AT, V2.1.0.0, Release Notes.

The introduction of the default AT firmware, V2.1.0.0, for the ESP32-S2 series of modules and development kits will have no impact on either the delivery or the manufacturer part number (MPN) of the relevant products and, therefore, customers can continue to use the existing MPN for placing their orders.

Furthermore, the introduction of the default AT firmware, V2.1.0.0, for the ESP32-S2 series of modules and development kits does not affect their Wi-Fi and Bluetooth performance or the validity of their existing Wi-Fi and Bluethooth certifications.
