Mexico’s “Talent Land 2018” with an ESP8266 Badge

“Talent Land 2018” is taking place in Mexico City at Expo Guadalajara from April 2nd to 6th. “Talent Land” is the biggest annual event for programmers of all levels in Latin America. This year 30,000 participants will attend 1,500 hours of content over 5 days filled with workshops, presentations, keynote speeches and roundtable discussions in fifteen different thematic areas, ranging from drones and robotics to application development, high-tech startups and marketing.

Only 90 lucky conference participants will be able to get a limited-edition souvenir of this event, which has been partially sponsored by Espressif. It is a ESP8266-based electronic badge that has been specifically designed for “Talent Land 2018” by Armando Are and StickersGame, who have given it the evocative name: “Badge of the Lands”. In fact, this electronic badge is based on an ESP8266 module, ESP-WROOM-02, which is a low-power 32-bit MCU Wi-Fi module. TCP/IP network stacks, a 10-bit ADC, and HSPI/UART/PWM/I2C/I2S interfaces are all embedded in this module, making “The Badge of the Lands” an ideal souvenir which is interactive and hackable. Not only will it show the holder’s basic information, but it will also provide important details about the event. More importantly, however, users will be able to interact with other badge holders and write code for their gadgets, using the Arduino Integrated-Development Environment (IDE).

The "Badge of the Lands" comes in three different versions, whose abstract sketches are meant to symbolize equal access to technology for everyone: a male face that resembles Nikola Tesla (best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating-current electricity-supply system), a female face and a robot.
